Ramble On (Live In Las Vegas)

The Fremont Street Blues and Reggae Club, May 13, 1995

Production notes:

  • From the “No Quarter Pounder” Tour, 1995
  • David Raven- Drums; Fernandez – Conga; Derf Nosna-Haj – Bass; Jah Paul Jo – Guitar, Vocals; Putt Mon – Guitar, Vocals; Tortelvis – Vocals
  • Signature Crosby Stills & Nash vocal riff was tribute to early Dread Zeppelin fan, David Crosby
  • One of final gigs for Jah Paul Jo and David Raven

After Hot & Spicy Beanburger assembled most of the original band (minus Fresh Cheese ‘n Cheese as drummers were disappearing in Spinal Tap-ian proportions!), the recording of No Quarter Pounder and it’s accompanying tour posed new personnel problems. Namely, new drummer, bass and conga player!

Stepping in were David Raven (the first and possibly only Dread Zeppelin member to use his real name!), Derf Nosna-Haj, and Fernandez. Put Mon, DZ’s ultimate utility player, moved to guitar.

The band was extremely tight and worked out some wonderfully weird arrangements. Raven’s signature drum beat on “Viva Las Vegas” brought that song to life (later versions were weak by comparison). Derf certainly was game as he laid down some heavy bass all while being as nearly nude as Put Mon. Was Fernandez Ed Zeppelin’s twin brother? (no)

Put Mon brought a new dimension to DZ’s guitar work. Here, he is using his patented drum stick tapping technique modeled after Jimmy Page’s bow work. The effect is, well… see for yourself!
